Runners in an earlier Fantasy of Lights 5K Run.

The 14th annual Fantasy of Lights 5K Run and 2.5-Mile Fitness Walk will take place on Nov. 21 at Tradewinds Park in Coconut Creek.

Michael Mills of Broward Parks and Recreation Division describes it this way: “A unique evening race set on a USA Track and Field-certified course illuminated with millions of lights and larger-than-life animated displays, the 5K course is flat, fast and ideal for setting a personal record.”

The 5K run begins at 6 p.m. and the 2.5-mile walk starts at 7 p.m.; a free Kids’ Fun Run starts at 6:50 p.m. No pets, skateboards, in-line skates, or bicycles are allowed, although strollers will be permitted.

Registration is only at Active.com. No paper registration is offered. The fees are $20 per person for the 5K run and $17 per person for the walk. Registration is limited.

Participants receive a long-sleeved T-shirt. After the race there will be a deejay, costumed characters, a bounce house for kids and a variety of foods and beverages. Massages will be provided by the Florida College of Natural Health.

Race results will be posted at SplitSecondTiming.com but the walk will not be timed or scored.

Kids who are between 9 and 16 years old can learn about breeds and anatomy of horses; appropriate riding equipment, tack and general care of horses in show rings and on the trails; nutrition and feeding; and horse health care.

Also included are farm activities, indoor/outdoor games and watching videos.

The four-day session costs $300 per person. Registration is being held on Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the park’s stables. A waiver of liability must be signed at time of registration.

People 13 and older can take a horseback ride while learning about plants and animals at Tradewinds Park in Coconut Creek on May 2. The ride starts at 9 a.m. and costs $45 per person. Registration is accepted the morning of the event at the stables. For more information call 954-357-8720.

The typical triathlon combination of swimming, cycling and running will be held in reverse order for the Reverse Triathlon on May 16 at Tradewinds Park in Coconut Creek. The event will start with a two-mile run, is followed by a 13.5-mile cycling ride and ends with a 300-yard swim.

Proficiency in these three events is not the only qualifier to compete. Athletes must also know how to race each stage to preserve energy and endurance for each subsequent stage. All USA Triathlon rules will be in effect.
