Race #4 of mountain biking’s Coconut Cup, the 8th Annual South Florida Championship Series, took place at Markham Park in Sunrise on Jan. 24. The series awards $25,000 in cash and prizes and is the region’s most prestigious for mountain bikers.

On the 20.4-mile course Tara Pizza won the women’s elite class in 111.44 minutes and on the 27.2-mile course Bob McCarty won the men’s elite class in 117.68 minutes.

Races #1, #2 and #3 took place in November and December. McCarty and Carolyn Van Vurst won the men’s and women’s elite classes in Race #3 at Hialeah’s Amelia Earhart Park.

Race #5 takes place at Amelia Earhart Park Feb. 6-7 and Race #6, the final, takes place at Oleta River State Park in North Miami on March 7.
