SOUTH FLORIDA ADVENTURES CELEBRATES 2-YEAR ANNIVERSARY

July / August Will Be Annual Watersports Issue

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (June 1, 2007) – South Florida Adventures, the only four-color glossy magazine celebrating outdoor sports in the region—on land, in the water and even in the air—is celebrating its 2-Year Anniversary.

SFA, a bimonthly that debuted in June 2005, has developed a passionate readership of local kayakers, hikers, runners, scuba divers, cyclists, triathletes and other hardcore and recreational athletes. In addition to providing compelling stories and stunning photographs on activities in South Floridians’ own backyard, the magazine is the best medium for companies advertising their outdoor sports products and services.

“Two and even three years ago we felt there was a need for a magazine like this, and now we’re even more certain,” said SFA’s publisher/editor David Raterman. “In fact, we plan on expanding circulation and page count in the upcoming year.”

Besides filling an important niche in a local publishing community that otherwise focuses on the real estate, marine and luxury markets, SFA has a strong team of writers and photographers who have contributed to National Geographic Adventure, Outside, Men’s Journal, the Sun-Sentinel, the Herald and other great publications. NBC 6 news anchor Julia Yarbough and a Florida Marlins team physician write in each issue, and other contributors have included world-renowned Everglades photographer Clyde Butcher, mystery novelist James O. Born and poet Miriam Sagan.

Every issue has stories on scuba diving, hiking, cycling, paddling and running, plus medical advice, nutrition advice, product and apparel reviews and photo essays. Feature stories have included the soaring popularity of kiteboarding, airboat rescues with the Broward Sheriff’s Office, shark fishing off South Beach and a Miami eye doctor who gives care to indigenous tribes around the world. The magazine has also profiled celebrities like Grey’s Anatomy star Patrick Dempsey racing at Homestead-Miami Speedway, Indy Car champ Tony Kanaan training for triathlons, watersports with Miss Florida 2004 and fishing with ex-Miami Dolphin fullback Rob Konrad. The magazine’s adventure travel stories—such as cycling through Belize, fishing in the Bahamas, snorkeling in the Marquesas Keys and kayaking off Big Pine Key—offer South Floridians an escape.

May/June is the magazine’s annual Scuba Issue, while retaining regular hiking, cycling and running stories, and July/August is the annual Watersports Issue.
