3-YEAR ANNIVERSARY

South Florida Adventures Celebrates 3-Year Anniversary

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (June 26, 2008) – South Florida Adventures, an integrated media company combining a glossy magazine, a website and events focusing on outdoor sports and fitness in Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach, is celebrating its 3-Year Anniversary.

Debuting with a June/July 2005 issue, SFA has developed a passionate readership of local runners, scuba divers, cyclists, triathletes, kayakers, hikers and other hardcore and recreational athletes. Besides filling an important niche in a publishing community that otherwise hits the real estate, marine and fashion markets, SFA has a strong team of writers and photographers who have contributed to National Geographic Adventure, Outside, ESPN The Magazine, the Sun-Sentinel and the Miami Herald. NBC 6 news anchor Julia Yarbough and a team physician for the Marlins and Dolphins write regularly.

SFA’s current issue has articles on “Mr. Marlin” Jeff Conine who retired from baseball to compete in 2008’s Ironman Hawaii (to story), the 10 Best Dives in South Florida, stand-up paddleboard workouts and more.

Until 2008 SFA was a bimonthly magazine with a controlled circulation of 10,000 copies and no website. It now has a circulation of 25,000 copies and has increased its frequency as well as built a website with stories and forums for outdoor athletes.

“This is a tough business but we continue growing during the recession,” said SFA’s publisher and editor David Raterman. “Our revenue is at its highest but we’ve also recently sent more advertisers to our collection agency than in our entire first two and a half years. So our long term looks good but like all media companies we’ve got some hard work in the short term.”

Highlights over the magazine’s first three years include stories on panther captures, a six-day kayaking journey through the Everglades, spearfishing off South Beach, corporate cycling teams and a Miami eye doctor who gives care to indigenous tribes around the world. The magazine has also profiled celebrities like Grey’s Anatomy star Patrick Dempsey racing at Homestead-Miami Speedway, IndyCar champ Tony Kanaan training for triathlons and Miss Florida 2004 Kristen Berset who is a watersports guru.
