Palm Beach Gardens resident Serena Williams is the top female tennis player in the world. But the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale grad also likes to look good when she competes so she’s launching a jewelry and apparel line for athletic women.

“I’ve been working on (designing) this for over a year,” Williams, 27, told South Florida Adventures magazine. “It’s awesome quality for sweating and playing.”

“Just because you’re an athlete doesn’t mean you have to act like a man,” she continued. “I think 20 years ago (female athletes) had to look rough and act rough. But you can still be a lady on and off the court.”

Each item in her Signature Statement line costs less than $100. But the affordable items were carefully designed.

“South Florida is flashy so that had a lot of influence into the jewelry line,” she said.

Williams will appear on the cable channel HSN on April 30, May 1 and May 2 to discuss the Serena Williams Signature Statement.
