“There is a huge population of surfers in South Florida now, way more than when I was growing up,” said photographer and surfer Ryan Pinder. “It can be dangerous when someone who is just learning goes surfing when a hurricane is coming, yet the normal ‘learning’ conditions they might go out in no longer exist.”

Pinder added, “Surfing is a physically demanding activity that requires combining endurance, flexibility, quick reflexes and focus.”
