Barefoot on the Beach 5K Run will take place in Fort Lauderdale on Feb. 28. This will be the first race of its kind anywhere in Florida, according to organizer Kelle Burke. Although considered a “barefoot” event, socks will be permitted if they do not exceed 1/8 of an inch in thickness.

The race starts at 8 a.m. on the beach at Las Olas Boulevard and also ends there. The event will be chip-timed and awards will be given.

T-shirts will be given away to the first 400 people who sign up. An “after party” will be at the nearby Quarterdeck.
