Two Club Mud mountain bikers died in on Jan. 23 during an airplane crash near Chicago. Members of the South Florida club are mourning the loss.

“It’s a close-knit community,” Sabino Marquez told the South Florida Sun Sentinel. “When you lose someone, it’s harsh.”

Gary Bradford, 37, of Hollywood, and Drago Strahija, 32, of Lake Worth, died in the Saturday evening crash. Witnesses told the Sun Sentinel that their twin-engine Piper Aerostar went down like a “ball of fire” less than 10 minutes after take-off. Officials are investigating the cause of the crash.

Friends remember Strahija as someone who worked to improve mountain bike trails in Markham and Quiet Waters parks.

Marquez said that Club Mud members might name a trail after him.

“We want to memorialize him in nature,” Marquez told the Sun Sentinel.
