By signing up for Baby Boot Camp’s 2010 “Mother Love Fitness Challenge,” moms in Margate can spend three months strengthening their hearts, bodies and communities.

“Mothers of infants and preschoolers may find if especially hard to hit the gym because of time constraints and may feel intimidated by the environment after having a baby,” says Ryan O’Neil, a Baby Boot Camp franchise owner in Margate. “And now with the H1N1 flu virus, many moms are even more concerned about what their kids will catch at a gym’s childcare center.”

Fortunately, there’s Baby Boot Camp. Moms bring their children in strollers and get a boot camp-style workout while their children enjoy the ride. Delivered by nationally certified fitness professionals, classes consist of cardiovascular drills and strength training exercises geared toward getting moms fit. Classes follow guidelines set forth by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American Council on Exercise.

The Mother Love Fitness Challenge began Feb. 1 and ends May 1, 2010. Each month has a focus:

February is strength. The goal is to increase strength and physical confidence. Classes will incorporate three specific exercises that students will do to fatigue: push-ups, plank and jump squats.

March is stretch. The goal is to increase flexibility in a way that is safe and effective for pre- and post-partum moms.

April is cardio. Baby Boot Camp classes increase cardiovascular endurance by emphasizing power walking, jogging and interval drills.
