The ninth annual Bicycle Film Festival, presented by 42BELOW, makes its debut in Miami from Dec. 10 to 12. Originating in New York City, according to a statement, “the festival adds Miami to its roster of 39 cities, lending its voice to the most powerful and culturally relevant movement of the past decade: the urban bike movement.”

The BFF brings together many creative communities, including fashion, music and art as well as various cycling communities such as road racing, mountain biking, fixed gear, BMX and bike polo.

The Miami BFF kicks off at 10 p.m. on Dec. 10 with Loose Cannons on the Run: BFF Edition, an intense 9-mile sprint race through the streets of Miami. The race starts at SOFLO Skate Shop (3301 Grand Avenue) and ends at the BFF opening party at the News Lounge (5580 NE 4th Court). DJ Maneuvers will be spinning.

On Friday, Dec. 11 at 7 p.m. is a reception at Kierin Cycles (235 A 9th Street) and afterward is a group ride to 42BELOW Goldsprints presented by Kierin Cycles at the American Legion (6445 NE 7th Avenue). DJ El Capitan will get things started with a late-night performance by electro-pop band BFGF.

On Dec. 12 the festival will screen various short and feature films reflecting the diverse experiences of bicyclists. Screenings will be held at South Beach’s Colony Theater at 5 p.m., 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. Highlights from this year include Where Are You Go, directed by Benny Zenga and Brian Vernor, and Anima D’acciaio (Soul of Steel), directed by Daniel Leeb.

At 5 p.m. the festival will host a special screening of Tour des Legendes, directed by Erik van Empel, in its original 35 mm print form. Told through the recollections of legendary cyclists Gino Bartali, Louison Bobet and Jean Robic, this gem chronicles the heroic struggles of the 1948 Tour de France.

Directly following the films is a group ride to the BFF closing party at the Electric Pickle (2826 N. Miami Avenue) with DJ Treasure Fingers. Admission is free for BFF attendees.
