On Oct. 11 at Nova Southeastern University’s Oceanographic Center  the Southern Florida chapter of The Explorers Club will hold its next regular meeting. Member Chuck Messing will guide attendees through the Oceanographic Center at Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale.

The Explorers Club, founded in 1904, is an international multidisciplinary professional society dedicated to the advancement of field research and the ideal that it is vital to preserve the instinct to explore. Since its inception the club, which is headquartered in New York, has served as a meeting point and unifying force for explorers and scientists worldwide. The club’s members have been responsible for an illustrious series of famous firsts, such as first to the North Pole, first to the South Pole, first to the summit of Mount Everest, first to the deepest point in the ocean, first to the moon.

On Nov. 8 at Miami Metrozoo club members and visitors will get a detailed visit of the Amazon & Beyond exhibit, followed by socializing at Ruby Tuesday’s across the street from the zoo.

On Sept. 28 at the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science at the University of Miami, explorer extraordinaire and photographer Bruce Purser, professor emeritus at the University of Paris, gave a presentation of his work on jungle bugs in the high Andes and other remote areas of the world.
