Half Marathon And 5K Bridge Runs In Key Largo, Nov. 14

By Editor • Jul 8th, 2009 • Category: Uncategorized

Banking on the success of the annual Seven Mile Bridge Run that has thrived for 25 years, organizers in Key Largo have created the Jewfish Creek Bridge Run, which is a half marathon and 5K run/walk set for Nov. 14.

The races are to occupy the northbound lanes of the recently completed 1.25-mile Jewfish Creek Bridge and the southern portion of the 18-mile section of the Overseas Highway, which connects the mainland with Key Largo.

“The course is mostly flat and fast, with the exception of the 65-foot-high bridge,” race director Candy Basilius said in a statement. “It is an out-and-back route that should be a perfect qualifier as we are in the process of getting the course certified with the USA Track and Field.”

The course provides spectacular vistas of the Upper Keys and the eastern edges of the Everglades.

The Jewfish Creek Bridge Run is presented by the Key Largo Baptist Church and TIB Bank of the Keys. Promotional funding for the run comes from the Monroe County Tourist Development Council.

Entry fees are $35 per person for the 5K and $70 for the half marathon. There is no admission charge for an accompanying health and fitness expo on Nov. 13 at the Key Largo Holiday Inn.
