River Of Grass Greenway Promotes Cycling Across Everglades

To support cycling across the Everglades, in particular across the Tamiami Trail, a group called the Friends of the River of Grass Greenway (FROGG) has formed. Its mission is to promote the establishment, preservation and safe use of a non-motorized transportation and recreation corridor between Miami and Naples.
According to EvergladesROGG.org, “The River of Grass Greenway will be a separated 12-14 foot wide paved pathway located along the Tamiami Trail (US 41) between Miami (Krome Ave) and Naples area (near Collier- Seminole S.P. or further west), with a spur to Everglades City.”
The Tamiami Trail is the only passageway through the Everglades that is accessible to cyclists and hikers. But safety along this narrow highway is a concern. According to the website, a separated pathway would provide for safe transportation as well as encourage photography, fishing, bird watching and general enjoyment of the greater Everglades natural area.
The Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners is considering a resolution in support of the ROGG. It is sponsored by commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz.
