The Marine Industries Association of South Florida hosted its 13th annual Plywood Regatta the weekend of April 25 to 26. The event raised more than $7,000 for the Plywood Regatta Scholarship Fund and marine industry education programs.

Nearly 300 participants on 36 middle school, high school and marine technical school teams battled the clock to build boats made of three sheets of plywood, tie wraps and marine caulk on Saturday. The next day they competed against each other for the Fort Lauderdale Mariners Club Trophy in a series of races in Whiskey Creek.

Partial results from the races are listed below.

Overall Champions: Skull Kandy – South Broward High School (sponsored by 3M)

Junior Division (middle school) champions: Demon Goldfish VII (sponsored by Frank & Jimmie’s Propeller Shop)

Intermediate Division (high school) champions: Skull Kandy – South Broward High School (sponsored by 3M)

Advanced Division (marine technical school and college) champions: Warrior – Riviera Beach Maritime Academy (sponsored by Baldwin Yachts)
