Fort Lauderdale Freediver Martin Stepanek To Attempt More World Records May 22-31
By Editor • May 2nd, 2009 • Category: Uncategorized
Fort Lauderdale’s Martin Stepanek set his first world record in the sport of freediving in 2001 and has set 11 more records since then. The Czech native recently announced he will attempt to break records in all three depth disciplines: constant weight, constant weight without fins and free immersion. These attempts will take place from May 22 to May 31 in the Red Sea off the Sinai Peninsula.
Anticipation for Stepanek’s record exploded after Austrian freediver Herbert Nitch achieved a death-defying 120 meters in the constant weight discipline on April 11. This broke the previous record of 114 meters.
