Divers Direct, reportedly the world’s largest retailer of scuba diving equipment, has announced a benefit raffle for a local diver who recently lost both legs as a result of a boating accident near the St. Lucie Inlet.
According to a statement from Divers Direct:
“Rob (Murphy) has been a certified diver for just over a year and has logged nearly 400 dives. His passion and love for diving is truly amazing. Only 2 months after suffering the tragic accident, Rob was able to begin diving again on March 11, 2009 in a display of strength and courage that many thought impossible. It is Rob’s wish to continue diving as frequently as possible and to help prevent similar injuries from striking other divers. He is dedicated to enhancing awareness of dive flag laws and to the development of an adaptive diver program to benefit other individuals with limited mobility.
“The diving community is grateful that Rob’s life was spared, and his story is an inspiration. Please join with Divers Direct to support Rob in his recovery efforts. Tickets for the raffle are on sale through May 2nd at Divers Direct in Palm Beach Gardens. Raffle tickets are $25 each or five for $100. 100% of the ticket sale proceeds will go to the Rob Murphy Recovery Trust.”
