Miami Artist Xavier Cortada’s Antarctica Works Exhibited
By Editor • Apr 1st, 2009 • Category: Uncategorized
Miami artist Xavier Cortada created “ice paintings” during his 2006-2007 National Science Foundation artist’s residency in Antarctica and they will be in an exhibit of art, photography, writings and sculpture at the Maryland Science Center in Baltimore from April 4 to Sept. 9. The exhibit coincides with the 50th anniversary of the Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting held in Baltimore in April. Never before has an extensive collection of the NSF Antarctic Artists and Writers Program works been on display.
While in Antarctica, Cortada created paintings using sea ice, glacier and sediment samples provided by scientists. Although these paintings are being exhibited in Baltimore, people can see digital copies at Cortada.com/gallery/paintings/index.htm.
