kids-cooking-redeyeThe Food Network South Beach Wine & Food Festival is again hosting a childhood obesity prevention initiative called Fun and Fit as a Family. Taking place from Feb. 21 to 22 at Jungle Island, the event showcases the fitness, food and health personalities who will teach people how they can make healthier choices while having fun.

“We are very excited about the return of Fun and Fit as a Family this year,” said Lee Brian Schrager, director of the Food Network South Beach Wine & Food Festival. “The childhood obesity prevention initiative is an extremely important topic for families across America, and we are pleased to have the support of everyone’s favorite culinary personalities in doing our part to draw attention to this issue.”

Seminars will be hosted by TV culinary superstar Rachael Ray, who founded the nonprofit Yum-O!; Dr. Arthur Agatston, who wrote The South Beach Diet and founded Healthier Options for Public Schoolchildren; and Tara Parker-Pope, the Well columnist for The New York Times.

“Childhood obesity has reached epidemic proportions in this country because kids are simply eating the wrong foods and not participating in physical activities,” Agatston said in a statement. “We are delighted to be engaging in an open discussion about this issue, as well as sponsoring the Fun and Fit as a Family event to promote healthy lifestyle choices.”

Tickets are $20 and available through FunAndFitAsAFamily.com or by calling 877-762-3933.
